Missions
“Jesus said to them, ‘Go into all the world and preach the good news to all creation.’” – Mark 16:15
Our goal is to support organizations whose main purpose is to train the local pastors to be sent out into their own community to plant churches and see lives changed for Christ. SMCC is committed to local and international missions.
Local Missions
Locally we have been actively involved in starting several new congregations here in Utah (Shadow Mountain Church in West Jordan and SMCC Daybreak campus in Herriman). We recently brought Desert Springs Church in St. George into the SMCC family, and now call it The Springs. And we support organizations such as Young Life and CEF (Child Evangelism Fellowship) whose goal is to reach children and teens, and plug them into local churches.
International Missions
Internationally, we support ICM (International Christian Ministries) in Africa, and OM (Operation Mobilization) and HBI (Hindustan Bible Institute) in India. The goal of these ministries is to train and disciple local pastors, who can then effectively reach their own people with the Good News of Jesus Christ. In Marafa, Kenya, SMCC has helped fund a new micro-loan program to combat the cycle of poverty and suffering there, and several hundred children in the Marafa area are also being sponsored by SMCC attenders.
Short Term Mission Trips
With improvements in the cost and ease of travel, the increase in cultural diversity in many parts of the world, and the availability of information, short term mission trips have become increasingly popular in recent years. SMCC believes that these trips can be valuable experiences for the trip takers, the long-term missionaries in the field, and the local people being ministered to. SMCC attenders have served on trips to countries such as Kenya, Tanzania, India, Haiti and Mexico. With the proliferation of short term opportunities, there is also a need to ensure that these trips are high quality and effective at furthering the kingdom of God.
